PRESS RELEASE

13th Moon Records and Cherry Red Records Nik and Mrs Fiend Photo credit : Axel |
Nik and Mrs Fiend write : Alien Sex Fiend are delighted to announce our return, after twenty-four years, to Cherry Red Records, who will release and distribute the new studio album, "Possessed" on license from the band's own 13th Moon Records label. Our connection with Cherry Red goes back to 1983, when they released our first single "Ignore The Machine" on their Anagram label. Things were tickety boo for a long time but by around 1995 most of the people we'd known and worked with there had moved onto pastures new and we felt that the time was right for us to do "our own thing" and so we set up our own record label, 13th Moon Records, in order to do what we wanted to do. And for over 23 years that's exactly what we did! At various times over the years since we left we have still collaborated with Cherry Red on a number of compilations, and in recent years our working relationship has become increasingly closer, starting with the recent Classic Album Box Sets Volume 1 and Volume 2 and even more so with the 35 year historical "Fiendology" 3 CD Set. According to "our man at Cherry Red", who wishes to remain anonymous to protect the innocent, "During talks about potential tracks for the "Fiendology" collection I visited Fiend HQ and was treated to some ferocious tunes from the new album blasting out of the stereo. I knew there and then that the new album belonged with Cherry Red... it took almost a year and several further messy visits but eventually the band agreed". The "music bizz" has altered a lot in the 8 years since we released the "Death Trip" album (blimey! where did the time go???!!). Running our own label has always come at a price and we've been feeling more and more that our time would be better spent on "being Alien Sex Fiend" rather than "being a record company", so Cherry Red's offer came at the right time. After all, the bottom line is only we can "be" Alien Sex Fiend, no-one else can write and record the songs or play live shows! We hope to get the best of both worlds by keeping our independence with 13th Moon Records whilst having the benefit of all that a bigger label can offer. Coincidentally ASF's been going for 35 years and Cherry Red have just celebrated their 40th anniversary - there must be something in the air! So... hands have finally been shaken, squiggles have been squiggled and we're ready to roll. The future is looking exciting, "Possessed" is, as we write, being mastered and prepared for release, and we're up to our third eyeballs creating the artwork for the covers and booklet, etc. Watch the skies, touchdown is anticipated this autumn! In the meantime, be naughty. Lots of IT |

YEARS AGO - THE BATCAVE TOUR |
Today, May 26th, 35 Years Ago... Alien Sex Fiend head off on The UK Batcave Tour along with Specimen... here's a pic of us loading up the equipment van outside our house aka The Haunted Palace in North London. L to R : Nik Fiend, Yaxi lurking behind the van door, Tony Bateman (sound engineer/driver) and Johnnie. We think Mrs F took the pic... |
BATCAVE TOUR DATES Today, May 27th, 35 Years Ago..... We're preparing to play at the Sugarhouse venue in Lancaster, UK, it will be our very 1st gig outside of London! Here's a cutting from our archives listing the Batcave tour dates.... (and before anyone mentions it yes it should be spelt "Rayleigh", in Essex - in case u didn't know) |
Today, May 30th, 35 Years Ago...After a couple of days off we then played Leeds for the 1st time, here's an advert from that gig at The Warehouse, one of the dates on The Batcave Tour. |
Nik Fiend remembers... 35 Years Ago.... and things were kicking off for Alien Sex Fiend big style... Olli asked me if we wanted to go on tour with The Batcave along with his band, The Specimen, and Hamish the regular Batcave DJ. It was fuckin' brilliant being able to play night after night, trying out our new ideas and songs... We had our track "R.I.P. (Blue Crumb Truck) included on the Batcave album "Young Limbs, Numb Hymns" which woz released a few weeks before the tour dates. We'd recorded it at Trident Studios where David Bowie, T.Rex, John Lennon et al had recorded!! Wake me up I must be dreaming!!! Don't stop me now I'm toooooo far out! We remember all of the brilliant people we met along the way, everything coming together and working towards what woz gonna be our 1st 12" single release with "Ignore The Machine", and Youth woz on board to produce it... fuck me sideways! "Got my wheels a-rollin'..." |
Today, May 31st, 35 Years Ago... Tonight it's the turn of Busters in Coventry... we remember the crowd continually chanting "Sex Fiends", Sex Fiends" even after we'd left the stage!... Here's a list of songs we played on that Batcave Tour... (yeah we know it should be "Lips Can't Go" (not "Don't"), but it was a new song and the cutting is taken from our archives of the time!) |
![]() Today, June 1st, 35 Years Ago.... It's "back to The Batcave" in London for our next gig... Mrs F recalls : "That leather jacket I'm wearing in the photo got nicked which was bad but even worse - our rent money was in the pocket!! aaarghhhhh!" |
Today, June 2nd, 35 Years Ago.... Back up north, this time to The Hacienda
in Manchester... |
Today, June 4th, 35 Years Ago... Next gig
on the Batcave Tour is at Crocs aka The Pink Toothbrush (!), Rayleigh,
Essex... this was the first of a few times we played there... only £3
a ticket - what a bargain! Apparently, so we've been told, this venue is
still there - now there's a thought.

Today, 6th June, 35 Years Ago... Tonight - a Monday! - we played Heaven in London. This gig was a game-changer in many ways... Youth (Killing Joke) and Kris Needs (journalist with Zigzag and Flexipop at that time and many other magazines since those days) end up with their heads in the sound system bass bins! Afterwards Youth comes backstage and is very excited to tell us that - Yes he WILL produce our 1st single - woo hoo!!!... though we hadn't decided which track to record yet! (See also the "Nik Fiend with Specimen" photo below) |

Today, June 10th, 35 Years Ago... This was our last gig on the Batcave Tour which took place at Trinity Hall in Bristol. Here's a previously unseen (we think!) photo taken by Eira of Nik Fiend during that very gig... (on the right) |

Today, June 23rd, 35 Years Ago... The Batcave Tour had been really
successful for us and after that was finished the gig offers kept coming
in... So we went back up to Scotland to play at Glasgow's Night Moves,
our first show outside of London on our own as headliners...
Mrs Fiend remembers... This was a very memorable gig in many ways, not least because by this time we'd signed a recording contract with Anagram / Cherry Red Records and we'd been in the studio to record our first single "Ignore The Machine" (B side "Gurl At The End Of My Gun") with Youth as the producer. We'd just got our sweaty mitts on the 12" test pressing of "Ignore" and we took it with us to Glasgow and heard it full blast on the venue's sound system! It sounded amazing, even better than it had in the studio - who would have thought that it would still be relevant 35 years later!!! |
