Nik Fiend writes : At our very first gig as Alien Sex Fiend back on the 1st December 1982 at The Batcave - as I have said before - I really thought that it might be our one and only ever gig. So to be hitting the 34th anniversary of that event is unbelieveable!

As some of you already know - and to those of you who have not heard this news until now we are sorry to be the bearers of such news - but our very dear friend of almost 30 years and current guitarist Simon "Doc" Milton died unexpectedly on September 22nd. It was a terrible shock to all of his family, his many friends, and everyone with a connection to Alien Sex Fiend, including all band and crew members, both past and present. We worked with Simon aka Doc more than anyone else ever within "ASF" - when all of the touring plus all the recording sessions are added together... and we were - as you might know - in the middle of recording a new album with Doc and Mat "Pod", so this was a devastating event for us and it brought everything to a halt. We have both been numb, we could not believe losing him, it has taken until now for us to absorb this news and gather our thoughts and to be able to write about Doc... And also to let you know where next for Alien Sex Fiend, but we are sure that you will understand that it has taken us this time to start to think about going forward....

THANK YOU to everyone who has sent messages of condolence, your kind words and thoughts have been very much appreciated,
we have passed them onto Doc's family and his wife and two children on your behalf.

Nik and Mrs Fiend share some memories :
Doc woz one of life's good guys, wot you saw is wot you got. He was - as the saying goes "as straight as a die" - and always respectful of wot ASF is all about. We knew he woz an alright geezer as soon as we first met him in early 1987 at the House In The Woods studio where he was the sound engineer. That session became "The Impossible Mission" / "My Brain Is In The Cupboard" single. He had a lovely dog called Buddy, who we loved to bits, and Buddy was often alongside us in the studio...you can often get the measure of someone by their pet! After that initial meeting we returned to record parts of the "Here Cum Germs" album, again with Doc on engineering duties, and many times after that. Our relationship blossomed and gradually he became part of "Alien Sex Fiend". Eventually Doc played guitar with us at our live shows - he appears on the live albums "Too Much Acid?" (1989) and "Altered States Of America" (1993). Simon gained his moniker "Doc" because he would dispense the band's pre-show "medicine" - namely a Jack Daniels and cola! - while the rest of us were busy getting ready, whereas all he had to do was don his doctor's coat and he was ready to go! He engineered and/or played guitar on some of the tracks on the studio albums "Another Planet", "Curse" and "Open Head Surgery". It was amazing to re-connect with him in 2012 for yet more live shows, Doc hadn't changed at all, it was like a second lease of life for him, he really enjoyed it and we were looking forward to sharing yet more great experiences and completing the new album we'd been working on together. We're gutted that Simon ain't gonna be about any more, he loved havin' a laugh, he had a fuckin' great sense of humour, he could tell some hilarious stories from his times as a studio engineer, and could feel the music of ASF, just as we do, it wasn't all about the "Rock" thing, we had a far deeper connection wiv the fella... bless him. Of course we are gonna carry on with ASF... it is our lives and always has been... AND Doc would be very pissed off if we didn't get the new album out!! His guitar is on f'ing fire, he was personally dealing wiv some emotional shit, which - like us - he could put into the music, it's a form of release for all of us, and the new album is havin' IT, mate.... work on IT is continuing...

Professor Brian Cox...

There is a regular feature on the NME.com web site called "Soundtrack Of My Life", featuring various celebrities. Recently it was the turn of Professor Brian Cox to choose his top tracks and he picked Alien Sex Fiend's "Dead And Buried" as "the song that makes me want to dance" AND also "the song that I want played at my funeral".... your fiendish secret is out now, Brian!

For those of you outside the UK who may not know about Professor Brian Cox... he is TV's top physicist, presenting programmes about the universe, astronomy, etc, he worked at CERN in Switzerland and he's also an ex-member of D:Ream (1994 pop hit "Things Can Only Get Better")

Devastating news reached us yesterday that our very dear friend and current guitarist Simon "Doc" Milton passed away unexpectedly on 22nd September. We are unable to say more at this time, we can't think straight. Nik and Mrs Fiend

Nik Fiend and Mrs Fiend write: The 1st "let's just go in and see what happens" recording session went so well that we all had the feeling of "let's go for an album then" so we set up further recording sessions... It's been a bit of an "All In One" process - between the 4 of us we've been doing all the playing and the engineering without anyone else's involvement in the studio... on some of the songs we seem to be writing / recording / arranging / mixing and producing ALL AT ONCE! On top of that Nik's been doing artwork as well! Other sensible people write a basic song idea, then figure out different parts, often demo it, sometimes rehearse it and THEN go into the studio, but not us ! It's been more "ooh that sounds good, let's go" and we've all piled in! Our heads have been full of new songs / lyrics / sounds... the new tunes are sounding well tasty, we could never have imagined how all this would come about! We are very excited by the new material we have bin coming up wiv... and we can imagine you lot going bonkers when u hear IT... we won't say any more to wind you up, only to say that IT is continuing onwards... it's all going on amongst other stuff such as the release of the Box Sets, compiling Fiendzine 24 (see below) and coming up with new T-shirt designs, etc, so it will take time, but blimey we reckon it'll be worth the wait!
