UK mainstream daily newspaper, The Guardian,
featured an on-line article on April 26 entitlted "Goth
For Life" mainly about Fields Of The Nephilim, but which also
included (if you scroll down the page) a "classic Goth playlist" with Alien Sex Fiend 's song "I Walk the Line" in at Number 3. Nik Fiend said "K'in Hell! Does that mean that we've gone upmarket now? heh heh" There was a good plug for the "Whitby Goth Weekend" too! |

discs & 27 tracks. Drawing on specials that have peppered his DJ sets

& danceable side of industrial, post-punk & EBM, cherry-picking
classics & rarities from the 80s, including the Alien
Sex Fiend track "Under
The Thunder (Ignore The Dub)". Within
this compilation lie sounds that have heavily influenced today's
crop of artists � from LCD Soundsystem & The Knife to Factory Floor
& Hot Chip. Other artists featured are

#71 included a feature with some of the artists on the compilation, including

Encyclopedia Gothica, written by Liisa Ladouceur (with illustrations
by Gary Pullin) is an A to Z guide to all things goth, from Absinthe to
Zombies, describing in detail and with black humor the music, fashion &
lifestyle as well as sharing insider slang and recommendations for essential
Goth listening, reading, and viewing. Appearing amongst the biographical
entries of artists and personalities is Alien Sex
Fiend. Also included is a - believed to be first - Goth Band Family
Tree, with Alien Sex Fiend at the centre under
Batcave. This genealogical chart traces the evolution of this music &
shows the connections between various subgenres which, as in metal and
electronic music, have mutated and splintered to such a degree it's often
hard to keep track, albeit fun to argue about. The Family Tree has been
re-created online into an interactive website with photos and video clips

| Nik & Mrs Fiend write : It is with heavy hearts, albeit along with fond & funny memories, that we write something about our dear friend, Jim Lusted, sound engineer & musician, who passed away at the end of January. We had known Jim aka Slim Jim Quim (as we sometimes affectionately called him!) for many years... I, Nik knew him from before I knew Mrs Fiend & that is a VERY long time indeed! He first worked with us in Alien Sex Fiend in 1985 when we did some demos including a very early version of "Mine's Full of Maggots" ("Maximum Security" album).... later he appeared on-stage whacking the drums at a festival in Leuven, Belgium (lots of mud there - like a mini-Glastonbury!).... he played bongos on "Get Into It" (from the IT album)... he was also lurking around in the studio during recording for some songs on our "Here Cum Germs" album as well as engineering the B-side tracks on "Magic" (1992 single from "Open Head Surgery" album) namely "Comatose" & "Mrs Fiend Goes To Outer Space". Slim Jim also worked with us as our live sound engineeer on many tours in the 1980s & 1990s including our first Scandinavian tour.... we were driving on a very very narrow & extremely dodgy snowy road in Norway in February - so precarious that the Norwegian driver asked us to put some slow music on!! cos he was getting tempted to put his foot down & go way too fast! As we were approaching a blind bend around a mountain Jim suddenly said "What would happen if an 18 wheeler (truck) was to come in the opposite direction?" Oooh he tempted fate there! Cos guess what? Yep the inevitable happened & a f'ing large truck suddenly appeared! whether or not it actually HAD 18 wheels we weren't able to check cos we were seriously shitting it.... luckily our driver was a cool dude & averted disaster! Jim also did live sound for our mega US tour in 1992 - so you can hear his engineering prowess on our live "Altered States Of America" album ... a couple of years later we worked with him on some alternative mixes of "Inferno" (the computer game soundtrack project)... Jim was a lovely fella, who we really enjoyed working with & being friends with. He used to pop round for a cuppa & to listen to music many times when we lived near each other. In later years, we all moved & we saw each other less, though we met up at a few of the Stereo MCs live shows (nice chaps we might add!) when he was working with them.... we are very sorry for his family for his loss, he will be greatly missed... by us & by all who had the great fortune to know him... |
